We envision a community in which accommodations and opportunities for citizens with disabilities are equitable to opportunities for the general population.
SLO Access for All is a field of interest fund at The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County, working and advocating for an accessible, diverse and welcoming community that values disability as diversity and encourages the full participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.
We advocate disability inclusion through annual grantmaking, informational presentations, engagements with partner organizations and community recognition at the Paul Wolff Accessibility Advocacy Awards.
SLO Access for All advocacy serves all of San Luis Obispo County as well as those who visit, work and play in the county. We also offer connections to resources and community organizations that serve or enhance disability inclusion.
We believe that disability inclusion is essential to diversity and healthy communities. We are all affected by disability at some point in our lives: be it ourselves, our loved ones, our patrons or our acquaintances. 26% of adults in the United States have a disability (25.6% in San Luis Obispo County), and anyone can become disabled at any time.
Disability is intersectional, affecting all groups of people, including minorities. Services, products and improvements that support universal inclusion and disability access often enhance community experiences for those without disabilities, too.
