SLO Life Without Limits Week
Film Fest
Access For All (AFA) hosts an annual film fest which showcases one to two films that have been selected to give audience members a better understanding of living with a disability. Selected films may be documentaries, feature films, or short films. A discussion with the audience follows each film. Past films include the following: “My Left Foot”, “The Station Agent”, “Music Within”, “Twitch & Shout”, “Praying With Lior”, and “Tales of Galismera: The Orb of Elemental Power” (a short film produced locally by the Adventure Club).
In 2011, AFA and People First sponsored the short documentary “When I’m Not Alone” as part of the SLO International Film Festival. The film, directed and produced by deaf activist Rhianon Gutierrez, is about a person with developmental and emotional disabilities who becomes a strong advocate and leader in the disability rights movement. This person is also transgender, which brings another element of diversity to the film.
